Taking the Lead! Member Leaders Commit To Build Our Union!

Taking the lead photoIn these difficult economic times, our union needs a strong plan and strong member leaders at every worksite. Hundreds of SEIU Local 99 members came together on February 27, 2010, for our union’s first Leadership Conference to take on that challenge.

Stewards, Activists and other Member Leaders committed to take the lead in addressing many of the issues we have ahead of us, including the state budget cuts, furlough days, layoffs and reforms to public education. Members participated in trainings to build leadership skills and took on a new plan to grow our union, address the state budget crisis and build strength for classified employees.

In 2010, our union’s goal is to begin the process to ensure there is a trained steward at every worksite, to help 2500 education workers form a union, and to elect a Governor and Legislature that truly care about working people and education in California.

The Taking the Lead Conference kicked-off efforts to ensure that we can meet our goals and build long-term union strength.
